A Moment off Duty but Never Off Trend

Seeking out style is always a thrill, and I certainly got my fashion fix at the DIT Student Design Semi Final. Siobhan Cahill one of the semi-finalists caught my eye and kindly took a moment out of her busy schedule on the night  to tell me that she often finds inspiration from fashion blogs including Lookbook.

Siobhan’s mum, Maria Cahill and her Aunt, Siobhan Grady, were also in attendance and we can see that style clearly runs in the family. Loving the look, ladies!

Style Stalking

As self-appointed Style Stalker for the evening at Smock Alley, I was sure that fashion would not be confined to the runway alone. On the prowl for the aesthetically sublime, I was not disappointed.

Have a look at some of the photos of our glamorous attendees at the DIT Student Design Semi Final and I'm sure you'll agree!

I'll be out again with the Glam Cam and in  the words of Sting "I'll be watching you", so keep giving us plenty of style everyone.

Quick Quotes from DIT Student Design Semi Final at Smock Alley

Maria Fusco

Seeking out an expert view, I asked one of the judges, stylist Maria Fusco, what she thought about the DIT Student Design Award.  She commented that it was “one of the best competitions to project a designer into the limelight” and that she loved to see the designers creativity. Fusco, who has been a judge for the Award for the last four years, said “keep giving us fantasy and dreams. That is what fashion should be”!

Stylist Cathy O'Connor enthusiastically commented that she was looking forward the "creativity and self-expression" of the designers.

Semi Finalists Display their “House of Chaos” Inspired Creations

The excitement was palpable at Smock Alley for the DIT Student Design Semi Final. Final preparations of the runway, finishing touches of make-up for the models and the arrival of interested students, family, friends and of course, the judges!

Taking inspiration from the “House of Chaos” theme, fabulous creations graced the catwalk. Highly unusual garments and structural designs featured, making the decision of the judges, without question, a difficult one.  Nevertheless, a decision was reached!

The chosen finalists are Nicole Jackson- Co.Galway, LIT, .Louisa Howard – IADT, Edel Traynor- Grafton Academy, Laura Jennings – Co.Mayo, LIT, Mona Sweeney – GMIT,   Jordan Edmonds Moore- LIT,  Antonia Dowling – DIT, Maria Roche- Griffith College, Jessica Brandt – University of Ulster, Colin Horgan – Co.Kerry LIT.

For those of you who didn't get to attend, this is an overview of what you missed:
