Photo Call

Another week over, another week closer to the show. We passed the 4 week mark on Tuesday and we're all so excited now and busy with planning to make it the best show ever! So much done this week from measurings to meetings to our amazing photo call!

Tuesday the 1st March marked the launch of our show with a photo call. The sun was shining, the location was beautiful and we had the wonderful Mr. World 2010 Kamal Ibrahim to appear in shots with our four gorgeous models. On the location of Henrietta street we got some great shots on the street and inside in one of the houses. We also had our very own stylish Alfa Giullietta courtesy of Alfa Romeo for the shoot which made for some great shots, and really caught the eyes of all passerbys!

Charity Gig!

Another fashionable week gone by of committee meet ups, model rehearsals and charity gigs! Our charity gig happened on Wednesday the 23rd in Karma Stone Bar. It was a great success and a lot of money was raised for our charity, "Home of Hope", whose link I have posted down below. At the gig there was live music from DIT's very own Gig Soc who provided us with one of the bands they've formed David was an Acrobat. Also the fantastic Emma Fitzsimons sang too. An enjoyable night was had by committee, models and charitable viewers. Below are some of the pictures of the night. To see the rest of the pictures make sure to watch out on our facebook!

Also this week we had our chosen Student designers in to choose their models. Then once models and designers were paired together it was time to start getting measured to get the designs into actual creations.
We cannot wait to see what the brilliant designer's creations look like when made!

Now with only 4 and a half weeks to the show we'll have lots and lots of pictures and exciting information to share so make sure to look back again next week!

2011 show!

Hi guys! Hope everyone is well! Time to rejuvenate the blog and tell you guys about all the exciting plans for the DIT Fashion show as sponsored by Alfa Romeo this year! Our show directors this year are Katie and Maria assisted by the lovely Steven.

So in case you were unaware the date for this year is Tuesday 29th of March, save the date! It's going to happen in Vicar Street again and we're planning a bigger and better show this year. You can depend on our beautiful models, amazing goodie bags and a general fabulous night out!

Other then the show itself and the semi-final our other event of the year is our Charity Gig. Our charity gig is next Wednesday the 23rd of February in aid of Home of Hope. Live music and drink promos with just a €5 entrance fee! Make sure to all come out!
Now you want to hear about our models I'm sure. Well this year we have back some of our usual models but also a host of fresh faced ones too. They've been hard at work at rehearsals every Wednesday and here you can see some of our models hard at work under the supervision of model coordinator Shireen.

On Tuesday we had the judging of our Student Designs. We received 47 entries this year and they were all of such a high standard!A sample of what we received

Of course though we can't show them all so on Tuesday our three judges deliberated to cut down the amount for the semi-final. Our three fabulous judges, Maria Fusco, Barbra Power and Angela Scanlon, deliberated through all the different entries and cut down the entries to 16.

DIT Foundation Student Design Award Unzipped!

The lucky winner of this year’s Student Design Award will receive an original piece of bronze sculpture specially created for the DIT Alfa Romeo Fashion Show 2010. The Student Design Award is sponsored by DIT Foundation who commissioned Dublin based sculptor and DIT graduate Jason Crowley to create this great piece!

Jason Crowley working on the piece

The Student Design Award recognises the best fashion designer amongst the eight shortlisted finalists and the winner will be announced at the show in Vicar Street on March 24th.

As a DIT graduate himself, Jason Crowley was thrilled to be asked to create the award. According to Jason, his work was inspired by the theme for this year’s show, ‘Rock Revolution’. “With this in mind I was drawn to the idea of black leather and biker culture, looking to the biker jacket for inspiration, I decided to use the “zipper” as the model on which to extract an arrangement for the award’s design. The zipper was appropriate for a couple of reasons. Firstly, as a sculptor/ metal finisher it appealed to me simply for its metallic nature and formal arrangement. In addition, I felt it was appropriate simply due to its prevalent use throughout the fashion industry,” he said.

As well as sponsoring the Student Design Award, DIT Foundation is the nominated charity for the DIT Alfa Rome Fashion Show. All proceeds raised from this year’s Fashion Show will go to the Foundation, in particular to the Student Assistance Fund, which helps students who are in financial difficulty to complete their studies.
